About the festival
Cirkopolis is an international festival of contemporary circus that, since 2013, has been bringing original and inspiring performances from across Europe and beyond to Prague and other Czech cities. It focuses on unexpected and innovative forms at the crossroads of genres, introducing audiences to emerging international artists while also giving space to independent Czech creators.
Its programme spans a wide spectrum of genres: from contemporary circus to physical theatre, contemporary dance, and musical performances. From experimental chamber works to visually striking productions — always with an emphasis on artistic quality, invention, and integrity.
Cirkopolis is an event that connects artists, audiences, and professionals, creating a space for dialogue, inspiration, and the discovery of new forms of artistic expression. It also supports the Czech independent scene and its integration into the broader European context.
Founded in 2013, the festival has been held as a biennial since 2026, taking place every even year. It is organised by CIRQUEON – Center for Contemporary Circus in co-production with Art Frame Palác Akropolis. Both critics and audiences consistently praise Cirkopolis as a unique project with a carefully curated programme that pushes the boundaries of the circus language.
